Understanding Your Audience

The first step in creating high-quality content is to understand your audience.
Who are they? What are their pain points? What are they interested in?
Before you start writing, take the time to research and get to know the audience you are targeting. Here are a few ways to do that:

  • read similar blogs you like
  • visit relevant Facebook groups
  • look at your website’s analytics

Knowing your audience is the first step toward making content that really connects.
Time for an example.
Let’s say you run a blog about living a healthy lifestyle.  When you check the data from Google Analytics, you can see who is visiting your website and what they want to know.
You find our that most of your visitors are in their 30s, work long hours and are looking for easy ways to stay healthy.
So you might create a few posts that focus on quick exercises or healthy meal options. Like “5-minute workouts for busy professionals” or “Whole30 lunches for the office.”
The main goal here is to remember to try and create content that is a good fit for what your audience wants. Content that resonates and hits home is more likely to spark engagement and get shared.
